Cherokee County Historical Society
Committee Reports: January 25, 2001

Membership/Tom Krueger
It will soon be time to ask for membership renewals. Unless otherwise directed, those joining September or later will be considered to have paid 2001 dues. We are still waiting on the bulk-mailing permit. This permit will be a real cost saver for us. Judson and I are working on the Canton High School Alumni solicitation. Letters have been prepared, and the list has been identified and ready for either computer preparation of letters and envelopes or in the alternative, mailing labels.

Genealogy/Mary Free
The committee met last fall to discuss and implement a plan for a genealogy section on the website. Articles were added from the old newsletter archives and historic photos were also added. Photos need captions and identification, which can hopefully be provided by someone in the Society. The committee also planned to hold a genealogical seminar focusing on Internet research sometime in 2001. Timing for the event will depend on completion of the Rock Barn facility and acquiring necessary equipment and connectivity there.

Publicity/Sylvia Rankin
Committee will continue to publicize the activities of the Society via email to a list of local newspapers, radio stations, genealogical/historical mailList servers, and online enterprises (such as AccessAtlanta), and also through the website. Chairman has donated the resources of her Studio to continue updating the website through 2001. Special events publicity strategy will be developed in coordination with recommendations by the Board of Directors and/or Programs Committee Chairman as these events are scheduled

Finance/Judson Roberts

Library & Museum/Barbara Martin
"I met with a lady from the Georgia Historical Society in Canton so she could look over what we have to catalogue, give me some ideas on processing, and the best way to achieve that goal. In February I hope to get the committee together and slowly begin. I would like to request about $1000 for Library/Museums. Some things need to be bound, others need to be identified, labeled, and marked for inventory and for check out. I will be able to furnish a better estimate after I get some more answers."
