VP Vacancy:
Original candidate for Vice President, made by the Nominating Committee, is now unable to accept the office. Judson Roberts noted that there are several potential candidates who may consider the office. After discussion, it was decided that Judson Roberts will approach Ms. Cathy Day to inquire whether she would accept the nomination.
Motion made to request that Ms. Day accept the nomination: Elaine Hubbard
Motion seconded: Jean Krueger
Quarles House:
This historic home is endangered. Peggy Corbitt's history class is doing a video on the property. The developer has agreed that the house can be relocated.
February Meeting Program:
The next meeting of the Society will be Tuesday, February 13 at the Cherokee County Historic Courthouse. No meeting topic or speaker is known to the Board at this time.
Committee Reports:
Committee reports were solicited by email, printed for review, and compilation by Sylvia Rankin dated January 25, 2001 is attached to and made a part of these minutes. A new Chairman of Historic Sites Committee is needed and it was decided that Fonda S. Oliver will be invited by Judson Roberts to take this position.
Genealogy Seminar:
Sylvia Rankin reported for the Genealogy Committee that an 'Online Genealogy' seminar is tentatively planned for 2001, but the Rock Barn facility must be completed and certain equipment in place prior to setting a date. Particularly, there must be Internet connectivity, computer terminal(s), and presentation equipment such as an LCD projector in order to successfully do such a seminar.
New Equipment (copier/LCD Projector):
The copier currently in the Society office is antiquated, in a state of disrepair, and needs to be replaced. It was discussed and decided that the Board review specs and pricing for a new copier at the March meeting. It was further discussed and decided that Sylvia Rankin present specs/pricing on LCD projectors for review at the March meeting.
Motion made to approve: Judson Roberts
Motion seconded: Elaine Hubbard
Status of Rock Barn Construction:
Jack Pyburn has reported that he has selected a project manager (the same person who did the courthouse) but she is not under contract yet. Construction documents were revised somewhat according to requirements necessary to maintain the building's National Register status, basically to make the interior elements more rustic in keeping with it's original construction as a working barn.
Date for next Board Meeting: March 21, 2001
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
